English Landscapes Looks to the Future in the South West
English Landscapes has appointed Mark Dawes as their Contracts Manager for the County of Devon. Mark was previously Contract Supervisor on English Landscapes’ prestigious Teignbridge District Council Grounds Maintenance Contract, where his achievements within the contract itself as well as externally in establishing and managing new client relationships in the area earned him this much deserved promotion.

The Teignbridge District Council contract has shown continuous improvement in independent annual audits over the last three years, repeatedly hitting the Top Five for quality standards, which are benchmarked nationally using a range of Key Performance Indicators. Focusing on the maintenance of bowling greens, football pitches, parks and open spaces, and the seafront with its specialist bedding, the contract has this year been extended by the Council for a further three years based on the excellent service delivery provided by English Landscapes.

Mark Dawes said “I will be responsible for the operation of our Devon contracts, liaison with clients and ensuring service excellence across our operations. I am looking forward to developing the Teignbridge District Council contract even further and to expanding the business with new clients in the area. I think English Landscapes offers an excellent service to all its clients, irrespective of contract or business size.”

Danny Mitchell, Area Manager said ‘English Landscapes has a clear policy in providing ongoing development and training to its employees and has been an Investor In People since 1997. This investment in our staff and in the skills which will form the cornerstone of the future of our industry is even more valid with the current skills shortage. Mark came to us with excellent supervisory skills and leadership experience from serving in the military. Since joining English Landscapes he has taken on full horticultural and health and safety training and has developed within the company, resulting in his new appointment as Contract Manager for Devon and Cornwall’.

This appointment and the move of the company’s Devon operational base to Newton Abbot reflects the change in balance of English Landscapes’ major contracts in the region. It also places English Landscapes in pole position to actively participate in local regeneration projects due to its proximity to primary cities such as Exeter and Plymouth.

Nationally, English Landscapes is well known as a market leader in providing street cleansing, grounds maintenance and landscape construction services to both the public and private sectors; successfully operating a wide range of contracts.
