Project Description
BALI National Award Winner 2007 - Land Renewal Scheme
English Landscapes was delighted to create this new modern linear park on a site which originally consisted of three tower blocks. The gardens are a public open space to all, and provide the local community with a visual and physical resource.
Works undertaken included:
The creation of five transitional gardens enhanced by high quality planting, hard landscape and sculpture:
Spring Garden - creation of low grassed mounds, planting of bulbs and wildflowers, and planting of a row of Scots Pine trees Birch Walk - Construction of a pathway opening out each end into hard paved areas, together with the planting of silver birch trees Contemporary Herb Garden - Planting of ornamental herbs, creation of low mounding, and laying of a hard paved area together with public art installation Sensory Garden - Creation of contoured earth mounding, creation of a secondary path with small areas of pitched slate set with large boulders, and the planting of ornamental grasses and shrubs Memorial Garden - Creation of three circles of paving linked by a path, and planting of shrubs and bulbs Central Axis - Laying of reconstituted stone paving with a grid of granite setts linking six tree grilles. This area is framed by feature entrance walls.
Construction of a boundary to the gardens - 1.8 metre high vertical bar railings Construction of a main pathway finished in bound gravel, which runs through the site.
