Project Description
BALI Special Award Winner 2006 - Use of Recycled Materials BALI National Award Winner 2007 - Grounds Maintenance of Public Grounds
English Landscapes was delighted to win this major high profile landscape contract. Blackpool's Central Corridor is Project One of the £1 billion Blackpool vision, which will help ensure that the town is transformed into a national and international destination over the next ten years.
The works undertaken included:
Creation of informal grass and meadow areas - planting of 650 semi-mature trees and 75,000 colourful shrubs and herbaceous plants Creation of community gardens and terraces Construction of two pocket parks Construction of a 650 space car park area Construction of a play area Construction of a multi-use games area Construction of a 20 metre long natural stone bouldering wall
The site's historic uses had covered over, removed and polluted much needed soils. Rather than importing vast quantities a sustainable approach was developed that manufactured up to two thirds of subsoil and one third of topsoil on site through grading and mixing existing site materials and arisings.
Following completion of this contract, English Landscapes was awarded a three-year frequency based landscape maintenance contract focusing on the upkeep of the park. The works include weed control, pest control, hedge clipping, mulching, hedge and tree pruning and fertilising. Other maintenance includes annual pruning to the trees, watering, litter collection, monitoring of perimeter fencing and ground water monitoring.
